Innovative online system enables customers to print their own baggage tag before arrival at the airport to speed up the check-in process
Qatar Airways is the first within the region to implement the online system on international destinations

Doha, QATAR – Qatar Airways has developed an innovative new online system for passengers who wish to print their own baggage tags before arrival at the airport.
Designed to take advantage of a seamless five-star experience from the moment of checking in online, My Q-Tag enables customers to arrive at the airport and proceed directly to the web check-in bag drop counter, where a Customer Service representative will process their already labelled baggage.
Currently available to 103 destinations for those passengers exiting Doha, the innovative process adds a further layer of customer service to the online check-in process by enabling customers to proceed quickly into the departures area where they can avail of more time to relax before boarding their flights.
Qatar Airways Chief Executive Officer, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said: “With the capacity to handle 8,700 customers per hour, HIA will provide a seamless, hassle-free experience to our passengers, from check-in to passport control and boarding. Qatar Airways passengers will be thrilled to take advantage of our new My Q-Tag service, along with the comfort and functional design of the new airport, and the exceptional shopping and dining choices it offers.”
The HIA Passenger Terminal Complex houses a total of 138 check-in counters across five islands, including 108 counters for Qatar Airways Economy passengers and all other airlines, 16 counters dedicated to Qatar Airways Business Class travellers and 14 luxury, bespoke, seated check-in counters for Qatar Airways First Class passengers. In addition, the new airport is also equipped with 34 self-check-in kiosks to further streamline the process and enable customers to print their own boarding passes.
Hamad International Airport offers 40,000 square metres of combined retail, food and beverage facilities, establishing the airport as a premier shopping and dining destination. With more than 70 retail outlets offering an unprecedented selection of designer labels, high street fashion, electronics, gourmet foods and much more, Qatar Duty Free at HIA caters to passengers, every taste. In addition, more than 30 cafes and restaurants offer a sumptuous selection of global and local cuisine.
The new airport is located on the coast of the peninsula and just 16km from the centre of Doha. Thanks to a sophisticated newly-built road infrastructure surrounding HIA, arrival time to the airport is around 25 minutes, depending on the traffic. Qatar Airways passengers can travel to HIA via car, bus, taxi or limo services.
Qatar Airways, the country’s national airline has seen rapid growth in just 17 years of operation, to the point where today it is flying a modern fleet of 134 aircraft to 141 key business and leisure destinations across Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia Pacific, North America and South America.
Over the next few months, the network will grow further with new routes to Miami, USA (June 10, 2014), Tokyo Haneda, Japan (June 18, 2014), Dallas/Fort Worth, USA (July 1, 2014) and Djibouti (July 27, 2014).
