Malaysia Airlines’ loyalty programme, Enrich, is undergoing a major transformation on 1 January 2026, introducing a refreshed earning model, revised tier requirements, and enhanced recognition, particularly for mid-to-high tier frequent flyers.
The announcement was made two month ago, but now that the initial buzz has settled, many travellers are taking a closer look and asking the key questions: What exactly is changing? How will this affect my future travel? Is the programme becoming more rewarding, or simply more restrictive?
This article explains what the programme is, what is changing in 2026, what they mean for different types of Enrich members, and why this refresh is worth paying attention to.
What’s Changing on 1 January 2026?
1. You Earn More Reward Points When You Fly
From 2026 onwards, members in Silver, Gold, and Platinum tiers will earn more Enrich Points for every RM spent.

- Blue stays at 1.5 points per RM
- Silver: 1.8 points per RM (previously 1.6)
- Gold: 2.2 points per RM (previously 2.0)
- Platinum: 2.5 points per RM (previously 2.2)
Example: If you spend RM1,000 on a flight and you’re a Gold member, you will now earn 2,200 points instead of 2,000.
This means faster accumulation of redeemable points, particularly for frequent travellers.
2. Long-Haul and Premium Cabin Flights Earn More Status Points
Elite Points (for tier upgrades) will now depend more on:
- How far you fly
- Which cabin you choose

From 1 January 2026 onwards, Business Class and long-haul flights will earn significantly more Elite Points than before. Take the Kuala Lumpur – Brisbane (Zone 5) sector for example: a one-way Business Class ticket will earn 12 Elite Points in 2026, a notable increase from the previous 8 points. And those flying from Kuala Lumpur to London (Zone 6) in Business Suite will see their earnings rise to 20 Elite Points, up from 12 points before the revision.
This means you can upgrade tiers faster if you fly long-distance or fly Business.
3. Tier Requirements Are Increasing Significantly
From 2027 onwards, you will need more Elite Points to reach or retain your tier.

- Silver: 35 Elite Points (up from 30)
- Gold: 70 Elite Points (up from 60)
- Platinum: 140 Elite Points (40% increase, up from 100)
Yes, you will need more Elite Points to qualify for each tier, but the upside is clear: every flight now earns you more points. So even though the tiers are becoming a bit more exclusive, your regular travel can still get you to Silver, Gold, or Platinum without needing to fly extra trips – in fact, you will likely reach them faster than before!
4. What’s New for Elite Member
Effective 2026, Silver members will enjoy an additional 10kg baggage allowance and priority baggage service when flying with Malaysia Airlines. The Silver and Platinum Companion Privilege card will also be digitalized, only accessible via Malaysia Airlines mobile app. . Additionally, Platinum Companion lounge access will no longer be extended to their guest – strictly cardholder only!
5. More Ways to Earn Elite Points (even if you don’t fly often)
This might be the best news for beginners. Starting 2026, you can earn Elite Points not just from flights, but also from:
- Redeem flights on MH with Enrich Points + Cash bookings
- Book a seat upgrades on Malaysia Airlines
- Hotel stays booked through Enrich Hotels
Sign up for AmBank Enrich Visa Credit Cards to enjoy 30% reduction in Elite Points requirement.
This means earning status is no longer limited to frequent flyers, it becomes more accessible to lifestyle-based earners.
How These Changes Affect Enrich Members
Before the Change
Enrich was:
- Easier for some members to reach higher tiers due to lower qualifications threshold
- Less rewarding for premium travellers
- Not many ways to earn Elite Points beyond flying
- Limited Silver tier benefits
After the Change
Enrich now becomes:
- More valuable (you earn more points per ringgit)
- Fairer for long-haul and Business Class travellers
- More ways to earn Elite Points (upgrades, hotels, Points + Cash)
- More premium at the top (Platinum becomes “harder” and more exclusive)
How Valuable Are Enrich Points Now?
You earn more per RM spent, your points will accumulate faster. This makes flight redemptions, upgrades, and lifestyle rewards easier to reach.
In short:
👉 If you fly MH often → Enrich Points are now more rewarding.
👉 If you fly mostly partners → The programme still prefers its own metal for best value.
4. How Fast Can You Upgrade Tiers vs Avios & Asia Miles?
When comparing Enrich to other major oneworld loyalty programmes such as British Airways’ Avios and Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles, the pace of tier progression becomes an important factor, especially for travellers who are not frequent long-haul flyers.
Avios (British Airways)
Uses a spend-driven system where tier upgrades depend heavily on flying higher fare classes or long distances on British Airways and its partners. This makes it harder for Southeast Asian travellers to progress because it usually requires expensive fares and frequent long-haul trips. If you’re not flying premium cabins often, earning status can be slow.
Asia Miles (Cathay Pacific)
Rewards long-haul and premium cabin travel but has more complex rules. Your status depends on a mix of distance, cabin class and Status Points earned per flight. It works well for travellers who frequently fly between major regions like Asia, Europe and North America, but for mostly regional flyers, moving up to Silver or Gold can take longer.
5. Where Does Enrich Sit in Comparison?
Overall, Enrich offers an easier and more straightforward path to tier status.
Compared with Avios, Enrich is easier to qualify in, and compared with Asia Miles, it is far less complicated, because Malaysia Airlines and Firefly operate many short- and medium-haul routes, Enrich is particularly rewarding for frequent regional travellers.
While long-haul premium flyers may get faster value from Avios or Asia Miles, the refreshed Enrich programme remains one of the most achievable ways to climb tiers if you fly often, even without travelling far.
6. AmBank Enrich: An Easy Way to Earn More Points Every Day
If you hold an AmBank Enrich credit card, the upcoming 2026 refresh makes your card even more valuable. Cardholders enjoy a 30% reduction in Elite Points requirements, meaning you’d only need 98 points instead of 140 to reach Enrich Platinum in 2027. Beyond flying, the card lets you earn Enrich Miles on everyday spending – from groceries and dining to bill payments and online purchases. You’ll earn 0.5 Enrich Miles per RM1 on overseas spending and 0.16 Enrich Miles per RM1 on local transactions, helping you grow your balance all year round without stepping on a plane. For occasional travellers, this helps accelerate tier progression, while frequent flyers can easily top up points needed for upgrades or redemptions. Ultimately, AmBank Enrich remains one of the most convenient year-round tools for Malaysians to maximise the advantages of the refreshed Enrich programme.
7. Two Month Later: Why the Refresh Still Matters
Although the news of Enrich’s programme refresh was released two months ago, its significance is becoming clearer as members digest what the changes mean for different types of travellers.
Newcomers now see Enrich as a more modern and flexible loyalty system, while occasional flyers benefit from a faster path to tier upgrades through non-flight spending. Premium cabin travellers finally receive rewards that better reflect the value of their tickets, and Malaysia Airlines is clearly positioning Platinum status as more exclusive and prestigious. For anyone new to Enrich, this timing is ideal – the 2026 rules give you the chance to plan your flights and lifestyle spending in advance, making it easier to maximise the refreshed programme from day one.
