Kuala Lumpur, 4 September 2026 Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has announced further expansion of its international network, unveiling a new Malaysia Airlines service to Busan, South Korea, alongside a new Firefly service to Kunming, China, during its MATTA Fair media briefing at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC). The announcement was made during a briefing led by Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, President and Group Chief Executive Officer of Malaysia Aviation Group, together with senior members of MAG's airline leadership team. The two destinations broaden the Group's Asian network and provide Malaysian travellers with additional direct connectivity to South Korea and China. Strong demand, but operating costs remain a key consideration. Speaking at the event, Captain Nasaruddin said that demand for air travel remains strong while highlighting the cost pressures that continue to affect airline operations. Fuel currently represents approximately 40% of operating costs, making fleet efficiency and modernisation an increasingly important component of MAG's long-term strategy. The Group has been progressively renewing its fleet, including the introduction of the Airbus A330neo into Malaysia Airlines' long-haul and medium-haul operations. Bryan Foong, Chief Executive Officer of Airline Business at MAG, said that 10 A330neo aircraft are now in the system. Foong, who assumed the Airline Business CEO position in February 2026 and oversees Malaysia Airlines, Firefly and Amal, is responsible for the strategic direction and performance of MAG's airline portfolio. Malaysia Aviation Group: Operational performance remains strong MAG also shared several indicators of its recent operational performance during the briefing. On-time performance has averaged 91.1% over the past eight months, with the Group targeting approximately 92% for the financial year. This remains comfortably above its stated target of 85%.
