New Protocols & Procedures

For interstate travel within Malaysia, all passengers must follow the SOPs set by the Ministry of Transport and National Security Council. However, passengers travelling to Sabah and Sarawak are subject to the State Disaster Management Committee’s travelling requirements. We highly encourage passengers to refer to the respective states’ official websites for updated information.

Category of Passengers Allowed Entry

  1. Malaysia nationals
  2. Foreigners holding valid Malaysian long-term visit passes can enter the country without immigration clearance via MyTravelPass/MyEntry. These categories of passengers include:
      • Diplomat (Exemption Order)/Dependent/Foreign Maid
      • Employment Pass (Category I, II, III) / Dependent/Foreign Maid
      • Resident Pass-Talent (RP-T)/ Dependent/Foreign Maid
      • Professional Visit Pass-Specialist
      • Professional Visit Pass.
      • Permanent Resident (PR)/Spouse to PR/Child to PR.
      • Long-Term Pass (Husband/Wife/Child) to Citizen.
      • Senior Citizen Pass.
      • Widow/Widow Pass to Citizen.
      • Student Pass/Dependent/Escort.
      • Malaysia Pass My Second Home/Dependents/Foreign Maid.
      • Resident Pass.
      • Temporary Work Visit Pass.
      • Foreign Maid.
      • Oil & Gas workers and Seafarers- Crew Ship entry for ‘sign-on’ / ‘joint ship’ must provide Letter of Guarantee.
  3. Other foreigners that are not listed in the above-mentioned categories are required to apply via MyTravelPass/MyEntry before entering Malaysia. Passengers are advised to refer to the Official Portal of Immigration Department of Malaysia for detailed information.

Travel Requirements and Procedures

  1. All passengers must undergo COVID-19 screening test upon arrival.
  2. All passengers arriving from overseas must provide a negative RT-PCR test result taken two (2) days before departing to Malaysia, failing which, their entry will be denied. The certificate must be presented in digital or hardcopy, preferably in English or Bahasa Malaysia.
  3. All passengers must also observe quarantine period as per the latest new quarantine regime, effective 24 January 2022.
  4. Effective 13 January 2022, passengers who have recently recovered from COVID-19 must comply to the following travel requirement and procedures to enter Malaysia.
  5. Travellers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by fully vaccinated parents or guardians.

    Foreign travellers can transit in Malaysia without obtaining clearance through MyTravelPass/MyEntry and abide to respective country’s entry restriction.

  7. Passengers entering Malaysia from any of the categories below are required to observe specific requirements to enter into Malaysia:

For PENINSULA:

Effective 29 December 2021

  • RT PCR test 2 days before departure
  • RT PCR test upon arrival into Malaysia and another RT PCR test at Day 10 of arrival
  • Digital tracking device (worn on the wrist) throughout quarantine period
  • Daily RT-Ag self test during quarantine (report test result on MySejahtera effective 17 December 2021 (for travellers from United Kingdom)
  • Mandatory quarantine: 14 days at designated quarantine stations

For SABAH:

Effective 28 December 2021

  • Passenger departing from countries reported with high COVID-19 Omicron variant cases listed above must undergo mandatory quarantine at designated quarantine centers upon arrival in KL International Airport (KLIA) before entering Sabah.
  • Passengers are required to undergo 7-Day quarantine for fully vaccinated passenger and 10-day quarantine for unvaccinated or partially vaccinated passengers.
  • Other international passengers transiting in KLIA with an onward connection to Sabah will be allowed to continue their journey and subject to 7-day quarantine for fully vaccinated passengers and 10-day quarantine for unvaccinated or partially vaccinated passengers at designated quarantine centres in Sabah.

Passengers will bear all applicable charges.

For SARAWAK:

Effective 24 December 2021

No Category of Passengers New Protocols and Procedures
1 Travellers and holders of long-term visit passes returning or with travel history to:
  • Botswana
  • Eswatini
  • Lesotho
  • Malawi
  • Mozambique
  • Namibia
  • South Africa and
  • Zimbabwe

within 14 days are permitted to enter Sarawak as per the latest protocols and procedures

  • Permanent Resident (PR) Visa
  • Spouse Visa
  • Sarawak – Malaysia My Second Home (S-MM2H)

 
  1. RT-PCR test 3 days before departure
  2. Apply via “enterSarawak” system
  3. Fill up e-health Declaration (eHDF)
  4. Mandatory quarantine for 14 days at designated quarantine stations at the first point of entry into Malaysia, regardless of vaccination status
  5. Home quarantine is NOT allowed
  6. Transit to other destinations is NOT allowed until quarantine period is complete
  7. Negative RT-PCR swab test result on the 12th day of quarantine before being allowed to be release; and
  8. Risk assessment will be done on Day-14 of quarantine and to be extended if symptomatic

 
2 Travellers from other countries or with overseas travel history within 14 days are permitted to enter Sarawak as per the latest protocols and procedures

  6. Quarantine at the predetermined quarantine station
  7. RT-PCR test on Day-5 (for 7-day quarantine) or on Day-8 (for the 10-day quarantine)
  8.  Risk assessment will be done on the last day of quarantine (Day-7 or Day-10). Quarantine will be extended if symptomatic
